Yogurtopia features premium frozen yogurt and toppings in a "help yourself" setting that includes an honor coffee bar. The self service model is not new to Sacramento, but owner Dave Ferris has taken the concept to the next level and beyond.

What customers will notice immediately about the yogurt is its tangy, European-style taste and texture. Icy-creamy is how most people describe it. The original version is delicious – especially with fresh fruit. This is a proprietary formula made with fresh yogurt to ensure the healthful benefits of live culture. "Ordinary frozen yogurt is little more than soft serve with unnecessary additives and other fillers. We wanted to serve a product our kids would love, and would be good for them", says Dave Ferris a registered nurse who grew up in Land Park and attended McClatchy High School. "Our ingredients will be proudly and prominently displayed, along with the health benefits", he adds.

Yogurtopia's other distinctive feature is their toppings. While other outlets feature gummy bears and sprinkles, Yogurtopia offers fresh fruits like mango, blueberries, and strawberries, along with granola, macadamia nuts, and other premium toppings. There are still the toppings kids are accustomed to, but healthy alternatives abound. Customers come in, select a cup size, and create their own dessert. "We charge by the ounce, so our customers get exactly what they want at the price they want to pay. The days of waiting in line behind someone who wants to sample all of the flavors and toppings are over". This is important because of Yogurtopia’s high traffic location. "Our concept is to maximize convenience, choice, and value".

By design Yogurtopia is also larger than other yogurt shops. The space includes seating for larger groups and enough separate space for birthday parties or yoga classes. "Community and family are our core values".
